Fred Snapp (Shoshone/Bannock) is a horse trainer and was good enough to don a slicker for some photos. The only problem was that it hadn’t rained in some time and the closest cloud was three states away. I replaced the horizon to horizon Arizona blue sky with foreboding storm clouds. In the painting he knows the storm is approaching and is still lit by direct sunlight.
